Who we are
Nora Aware is made by a small team in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what the Nora Aware iPhone app and this website collect, why, and what your rights are. If anything is unclear, email hello@noraaware.app and a real person will reply.
No account, no sign up
Nora Aware works without an account. There are no passwords and no email sign up. We never ask for your name, contact details or any other personal information to use the app. The app does not ask for your name.
What we collect
Two things, and neither is linked to your name.
Purchase records. When you buy, restore or renew a subscription or the lifetime purchase, a service called RevenueCat receives a record of it on our behalf: a random app user ID that the app generates, which plan you bought and when it starts and ends, your device type and iOS version, and your IP address at the time. This is how the app knows what you have paid for, and how we see how many people subscribe. RevenueCat does not receive your name, your email address, your card details or your Apple Account, and the app never asks for any of these. RevenueCat acts only on our instructions and does not use these records for its own purposes. Its privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Crash reports. If the app crashes and you have allowed Apple to share analytics with developers, Apple sends us an anonymous report of what went wrong so we can fix it. These reports cannot be used to identify you, and you can turn them off in your iPhone's Settings under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
That is all. We do not show ads, we do not use tracking pixels or advertising identifiers, we do not use analytics services that watch how you use the app, and we never sell or rent data to anyone.
Why we collect it
We keep purchase records because we need them to provide the app you have paid for and to keep our accounts: this is the legal basis of performing a contract with you and meeting our legal obligations. We receive crash reports because we have a legitimate interest in the app working properly. We do not need your consent for either, because they are needed to provide the app you have paid for and to keep it working. We would ask before collecting anything else.
Your learning progress
Your streak, completed modules, quiz results, bookmarks and settings are stored on your iPhone. If you are signed in to iCloud, the app also keeps a copy in your own private iCloud storage so your progress is there if you change phones. That storage belongs to your Apple account and is covered by Apple's privacy policy. We cannot see it.
Payments
Payments are taken by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details. Apple shows the exact price for your country, and you can cancel a subscription at any time in your iPhone's Settings. Apple's handling of your payment is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, or accept a reminder before your free trial ends, the app schedules those notifications on your phone itself. Nothing is sent to us, and you can turn them off at any time in the app's Settings or in your iPhone's Settings.
How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept while you have an active subscription or lifetime purchase, and for up to six years afterwards, in line with UK record keeping rules. Crash reports are kept for up to a year. Everything on your phone and in your iCloud is yours, and deleting the app removes the copy on your phone.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see the records we hold that relate to you, ask for them to be corrected or deleted, or object to how we use them. Because the records are not linked to your name, we will need your app user ID to find them: it is shown in the app under Settings, Subscription. Email hello@noraaware.app and we will reply within a month. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Nora Aware is written for adults and is not aimed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child.
This website
This website is a few static pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. The page font is loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when a page loads. It is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a short time to keep the site running and secure.
Changes
If we ever collect anything new, we will update this page, change the date at the top, and say what changed in the app's release notes. The current version is always at noraaware.app/privacy-policy.
